It also could spoil the whole gloss on them as well. Maybe someone will write about it when we're all dead and in the ground, so no one will feel hurt.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3226924615283203864.post-55541995108887070012009-08-12T12:45:46.023-04:002009-08-12T12:45:46.023-04:00Marks had a great profile in Psychotronic about 10...Marks had a great profile in Psychotronic about 10 years ago. (I'm paraphrasing my memory of his sentiment, not in any way trying to capture his literal words.)

Without my being any kind of expert at all, it seems to me that little great black popular music over the years has relied overmuch on grandiose lead guitar breaks, but virtually always has rock-solid rhythm guitar keeping the structure tight. My own absolute favorite Jimi Hendrix playing on record, for example--to point to a figure lionized by many almost solely for his lead playing--is a 5 or 6 second rhythm figure he plays on "Message of Love" on his BAND OF GYPSYS album.(It occurs about 3:46 in on the cd cut of the track.)(Speaking of this album, Buddy Cox is a leagues better bass player for Hendrix than Noel Redding ever was.)

But, I digress.Robert Cookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06951286299515983901noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3226924615283203864.post-79951036822493636972009-08-08T12:23:21.416-04:002009-08-08T12:23:21.416-04:00Good blog, great page. Since Marks was then living in Boston he joined the band for "Surfer Girl," an encore, as I recall.

The BB5 weren't really popular at that time, so when Mike announced what hotel they were staying at, he could do so without any fear of hoards of screaming fans showing up. My buddy and I did, and that was about it for the fans.

We got to talk to David a little. Carl was being interviewed by some smirking hippie FM radio guys. (My mescaline hadn't worn off yet. I remember seeing patterns forming on Carl's beard.)

Dennis walked in with a groupie on each arm, one of whom rolled her eyes and said, "Who will it be next week, The Four Seasons?"

Mike paced around, looking important.

I think David was wearing one of those black leather sport coats that the early-Stones and various Chicago blues cats would wear.J.D.
