Gillian's Found Photo #59

It's been awhile since we've run a found photo from the Fang (and there's still a few copies of the book
of the first fifty left, click here for details, and also ask about the catalog for her Help Me show).
Today's photo shows two slicks in cool, Italian cut suits, circa January 1968. The white Christmas tree is a nice touch, as is the plastic covered chair that old uncle Willie is sitting on in the rear right of the frame.
The real question in my mind is who is that on the bass drum head? It looks a bit like the Isley Brothers, one the drum head that is? Also notice that there's an adult size snare drum as well as the aforementioned kiddie kit in back. No drummer jokes please.

Looks more like the picture is of three white boys to me Hound - maybe that's why the fellas look so glum.

"Looks more like the picture is of three white boys"

yeah, maybe it's the Ventures...

I thought their getups looked a little bit like Paul Revere and the Raiders.

Maybe they're glum because most of the snacks are gone. Christmas tree's a little bare too.

Looks like a folk trio on the drumhead to me. Now we're really bumming out these guys.

Hmmm, not the Ventures, as the guitar player on the left is a lefty. Not a folk trio, either, I'd say -- if you look closely, there appears to be a diminutive sax player right in front of Lefty the Guitarist...

One thing we DO know -- Uncle Willie's a Miller High Life man!

I think the trio on the drumhead is either:
Dickie and the Testicles
Harry Johnson and His Swingin' Gonads
or The Dolphin Floggers

Google images of "1960s toy drum set" turns up this auction with much clearer pix but no definitive band info. Generic "rock-n-roll" marketing to the kiddies?

Awesome find, Doug! Yep, just "generic rock 'n' roll combo" at work here, with some weirdly mismatched bodies on the bandstand (unless that's Billy Barty on the sax up front...)

Another picture of the same drum set:

it looks a bit like the Sparkletones of "Black Slax" fame....

What's that pictured in the back above the guy sitting in the plastic covered chair (I thought you weren't supposedd to sit on those, just look at them)? It's a bit creepy. The whole thing strikes me as being as one of those "one too many picures taken experiences" and the two guys have reached the end.

Well Hound, since you have so much time on your hands, this is the story on this picture. These 'hoods are waiting in some lilly white boys apartment who stiffed 'em on a drug deal and they're gonna whack him. I hope this has solved the mystery for your obsession.

ps, still into she- males?
