Mr Ghetto: Wal Mart
Who says New Orleans isn't the cultural capitol of the world?
I'm not much of a hip hop or bounce (as they call the local brew in New Orleans) fan, but this just kills me.
Shot in New Orleans at the Walmart on Tchoupitoulas, a couple of blocks from where I used to live.
This is the part of New Orleans (a hair and nails watching cornucopia, just check out the 'do and nails on anyone working the register at Pop-eyes) that doesn't make it on HBO's The Treme. I haven't been back to New Orleans in sometime (too many ghosts), this makes me really miss the place.

I know you don't mind a little dissension, Hound. Maybe I've seen a little too much of this lately . . . it's titillating certainly, but watching it reminded me of something that Tennessee Williams once said:
. . . license is often mistaken for creative freedom by the intellectually and artistically lazy.
Would rather watch the go go girls from the James Brown Show circa 1967 than this mess.
holy camolie
I am with you on this one. I hated rap most of my life. Junkstored a couple of Blowfly records and slipped down the slippery slope. I like how this is barely music, that is the best part!
WOrks for me. Ring it up!
What's a Louisiana Purchase?
"What's a Louisiana Purchase?"
According to my sources--A girl is giving head to a guy, but a third party is moving her head up and down.
The music is just incidental (not to mention quite possibly the most inept hip hop I've ever heard) to that shit they're doing with their asses, though the whole Wal-Mart thing is pretty fcuking funny.
There's something really unsexual (I don't care if that's not a word by the way) about it, but I just couldn't look away. What would aliens make of it I wonder?
Order DVD NOW.

I must have missed an important part of the video. The Louisiana Purchase card is an electronic transfer card used in place of food stamps.

I wouldn't know about N.O. being the cultural center of the world, but I do know something about Bounce, and for what it's worth, this is not what I consider to be a great example.
Genuinely good Bounce is so frantic, so stupid smart in a purely 504 area code sort of way, that it starts to sound a lot less like Hip Hop and a lot more like a new kind of rock and roll.
Lets put it this way. If Hip Hop is dead, then maybe the only response is to amp it up, speed it up, make some seriously nasty noise.....and while doing so, dance in a way that "mom and pop" can't begin to mimic or even understand.
Sound familiar?
Hi ana-b,
Your blog is great. Big Freedia is playing here in Boston on Monday. Do you consider her/him to be a good Bounce artist?
Thanks,
Sean
You think there's anything else on the DVD? Horrible, even worse than Gwyneth Paltrow's country movie.
I do like the effective use of early morning light, and the cinema verite film style.
Oh wait, they probably just got there early to avoid the rush, and filmed it with an iPhone. Yeah, that's it.
Boy, you really missed the boat on what's good hip hop, Jim. I think it's time you went back to your former lifestyle as a hesher.

Looks like the next Allen Toussaint is here.
Thanks that the deep traditions of the unique cultural past of New Orleans is in good hands. I only wish Professor Longhair, Buddy Bolden, Louis Armstrong and Roy Brown were here to see it. Maybe one day they can wally wally wally past Fats Domimo's crib (Not far) and show him their new dance craze. As for the ghosts, same with me...I haven't been back, and the book I was going to write in a rented shotgun isn't going to be done either. Jim Linderman
I'm speechless. In a BAD way.
I love this music because it reminded me when I lived in Philadelphia, it was incredible because in that city was where I learned to appreciate this style of life.
